SPOKANE, WA. (April 15, 2013) – Next IT, the world’s leading provider of intelligent virtual assistants (IVAs), is pleased to welcome Thomas Morrow, M.D. to its medical advisory board. In addition to his extensive healthcare experience, Dr. Morrow also brings a fresh perspective on ways that the medical industry can best utilize Next IT’s natural language platform, Alme, to influence patient behavior in a way that will improve health outcomes.
“The need has never been greater for groundbreaking technologies to serve both patients and physicians,” said Dr. Morrow. “Whether we’re talking about the burden on physicians to treat an increasing number of patients or keeping patients healthy through improved chronic disease management, the use and integration of IVAs can make substantial gains, giving physicians and patients what they each need most: Time and information.”
Dr. Morrow brings more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, including 14 years of clinical practice and 10 years as an NCQA Surveyor. He was the founding medical director of 5 HMOs and has served as Medical Director for one of the largest disease management companies in the U.S. – responsible for starting new programs, overseeing software implementations and management of clinical operations to ensure improvement in clinical and financial outcomes. Currently, he serves as a Medical Director for Genentech, Inc.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Morrow has focused his work on emerging technologies in healthcare, and understanding the ripple effects of implementation. He is a prolific writer and speaker, authoring over 120 published articles, and participating in hundreds of conference presentations and panels. He is the writer of the longest running medical technology column in the United States, Tomorrow’s Medicine, published in Managed Care.
“Dr. Morrow is a leading advocate in the pursuit of advanced technologies designed to empower patients and physicians alike. His choice to join Next IT’s medical advisory board is a validation for both the company and our vision,” said Victor Morrison, VP of Healthcare Markets at Next IT.
“His unique and practical knowledge of the medical field, inside and beyond the doctor’s office, in addition to his extensive experience and network, is a major resource as we shape truly transformative products. We couldn’t be more thrilled for him to join our team.”
Dr. Morrow completed medical school at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College where he earned his M.D. in 1977. He then completed his internship and residency in family medicine at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.
